Role Purpose
The Project Manager is responsible for the execution and successful completion of Electrical & Instrumentation construction projects, ensuring they meet safety, quality, schedule, and cost expectations. Reporting directly to the Corporate Construction Management Group, this role requires strong leadership, coordination, and technical expertise to deliver high-quality projects aligned with both client and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strong leadership, mentorship, and guidance to your project team to achieve project goals in HSE, productivity, quality, schedule, and financial performance.
- Ensure full compliance with company policies, procedures, and client expectations at all project sites.
- Maintain clear, concise, and timely project reporting and updates to the corporate office.
- Ensure contractual obligations are fully understood and effectively executed.
- Oversee and provide direction to subcontractors to ensure work aligns with project requirements.
- Understand scope of work, engineering drawings, specifications, and project details to ensure seamless execution.
- Actively participate in ongoing training and professional development as required.
- Understanding of Lockout Procedures and compliance.
- Attend and actively engage in client, contractor, and labor representative meetings.
- Conduct daily project reviews with the Site Superintendent to monitor progress, safety and quality and address any other concerns.
- Ensure proper execution of Project Kickoff and Closeout documentation.
- Coordinate with the corporate estimating team before project initiation to gain a thorough understanding of the estimate, documents, and contract.
- Manage procurement, logistics, and material coordination to ensure project timelines are met.
- Ensure adherence to Canadian building codes, electrical codes, and regulatory standards.
- Develop and implement cost control strategies, ensuring project expenditures align with budget forecasts.
- Collaborate with local and federal regulatory agencies to ensure all permits, inspections, and compliance requirements are met.
- Manage stakeholder relations, including client representatives, regulatory bodies, unions, and community engagement initiatives.
- Manage environmental and sustainability best practices in alignment with industry standards and company policies.
- Utilize project management software and digital tools to track project progress, Schedule and cost.
- Ensure that all work complies with Canadian construction labor laws, union agreements, and workplace safety regulations.
- Provide input on workforce planning and recruitment to ensure skilled labor availability for project execution.
Required Core Skills
- Extensive knowledge of Electrical & Instrumentation Construction methodologies.
- Strong technical and analytical skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) legislation.
- Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
- Expertise in contract law, project estimating, work breakdown structures (WBS), schedule management, cost control, invoicing, change management, impact assessment, and risk management.
- Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to perform effectively under high-pressure situations and project demands.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing project requirements.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint).
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team-oriented work environment.
- Familiarity with project scheduling software such as Primavera P6.
Preferred Qualifications & Additional Assets
- Engineering Degree or Technical Diploma in a related field.
- Journeyman/Interprovincial Red Seal Certification in Electrical or Instrumentation.
- Provincial Electrical Master Certification or equivalent.
- Additional training or experience in Safety, Project Controls, Project/Construction Management, Contract Management, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC).
- Experience with 3D Modeling Software (Navisworks, SmartPlant, etc.).
- Proficiency in Primavera P6, Adobe Acrobat, or Bluebeam.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and engagement initiatives, ensuring compliance with local regulations and labor agreements.
- Understanding of Canadian energy sector projects, including oil, gas, mining, and renewable energy.
